Background & History
The school enrolls about 1,100 students from Barrigada and parts of Dededo, Harmon, Latte Heights, Tamuning and Mangilao. There are about 80 teachers and over 30 non-teaching positions and support staff. The school has a main principal, three assistant principals, and one administrative officer.
Originally named Barrigada Junior High School, the Barrigada campus was built in 1958. The school was renamed Luis P. Untalan Junior High School in 1978, in honor of a long-time local educator. He was born in 1906 in Hagatna and passed away in 1990. (Read his biographical entry on Guampedia.com.) In 1982, the school transitioned into a middle school. It is now one of eight middle schools in the Guam Department of Education.
Hours of Operation
Gates to the school for student drop off begin no earlier than 7:30 am. The first bell rings for Homebase at 8:30am. The dismissal bell rings at 3:30 pm. The Main Office closes operations for the day by 4 pm.
